Favorite Book

I love a good mystery, and some of my favorite mysteries are the Sherlock Holmes short stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. They are relaxing and intriguing to read, and who can resist trying to guess the ending? I can’t put a good book down once I’ve started it, so short stories are perfect for my busy life.

Favorite Movie

I have to admit that, in general, I’m kind of terrible at watching most movies. I tend to get sidetracked by analyzing how the sets, costumes, hair, makeup, and everything else are all put together to create the illusion that everything you see is real. Don’t get me wrong—I still like watching movies. I just don’t get pulled in so easily. I connect more with dramas based on real life events. My favorite movie is The Pursuit of Happyness inspired by the life of Chris Gardner. It’s an amazing story, Will Smith and his son are adorable together, and (spoiler alert!) the ending is just perfect.

Hobbies

My absolute favorite things to do in my spare time are home decorating and antiquing. My husband and I have a little farmhouse in the mountains, which I am slowly turning into our dream home. Antiquing is my outlet for non-perfectionist creativity. (I like to think of myself as a recovering perfectionist, since perfectionism is helpful for graphic design, but not always so helpful in everyday life!) There’s nothing quite like finding the perfect piece to complete what I’ve envisioned in my head. Cooking, gardening, and entertaining encompass many of my weekends, as well.

Pets

I have a one-year-old Plott Hound named Georgia, who is the friendliest dog you’ll ever meet. She’s a scent hound and still a puppy, so my mornings and evenings are spent taking her for long walks and playing tug of war until I think my arms might fall off. We also have two black cats named Bellow and Marshall. They are brothers, and although they look almost identical, they could not be more different. Bellow is confident and a little bossy. Marshall is sweet and cautious. But, both love people and getting lots of attention. (Editor’s note: her dog is named after one of her favorite typefaces, Georgia).

What I love about my job…

There are so many things that spring to mind. But, first and foremost, the best thing about working at Zine is the fact that my ideas and opinions are valued. We are a tight-knit, small team of designers, and we collaborate on just about everything. If someone sees a potential issue with a project, we talk about it. We are fully committed to the success of each project and of our clients overall. Everything we do is held to a high standard, which I love as a (recovering) perfectionist. Many projects are in our hands from concept to production, which allows us to ensure that the marketing message, design principles, and final product are the highest caliber possible. And, our clients are amazing. The level of trust they have in us is incredible and is why we can accomplish such positive results for them in their marketing efforts.
